Once again I am teaching students at the bachelor level at the Department of Politicial Science, Umeå University. The students are studying at the Program for International Crisis- and Conflict Management. It is an honour to be a teacher, employed as a guest lecturer, for students doing their first course at the program and for many, their first course at an university. The students will be exposed to basic concepts and models as well as opportunities to discuss different types of crisis and crisis management in Sweden and other parts of the world. The course also provided opportunities for discussions with guest lecturers working with crisis management and development in Sweden and other countries. The course also provide the students with a historical overview of the field of international disaster management in relation to international relations and development discourse.
Even though I have teached at this course for some years now, every course is new. I have really enjoyed meeting a new group of students, and for the second time I have added a section on human security in the anthropcene, based on UNDP:s Special Report 2022 with the title ”New Threats to Human Security in the Anthropocene. Demanding Greater Solidarity”.
