On September 25th-27th Local Governments from Sweden, Kenya and Uganda met for learning on local democracy and democratisation in relation to health, and for exchange on experiences from working in projects between local governments in these countries. The meeting was carried out in Nairobi, Kenya.
The partners who met were:
Region Stockholm, Sweden – Jinja Municipality, Uganda who are working together for improved children health care,
Region Norrbotten, Sweden – Kajiado County, Kenya who are working together for women´s health care,
Region Östergötland, Sweden – Uasin Gishu County, Kenya who are working together for equitable cancer care and,
Region Västerbotten, Sweden – Homa Bay County, Kenya who are working together for youth health
I was there as a representative for Center for Rural Medicine, Region Västerbotten together with a team from this organisation and Department of Health, Homa Bay County.
The event was organized by Swedish International Centre for Local Democracy (ICLD) and was one of the activities within their international training program on equitable health care.
It was rewarding meeting the team from ICLD and the local governments in Sweden, Uganda and Kenya.
