Kerstin Engström is a senior lecturer, researcher and consultant in media and communication, with special competence within the areas of gender analysis, journalism and communication for development and social change. She has extensive experience of working with education and research in higher education institutions, and is also experienced in academic leadership and management of higher education.
Since many years, Kerstin is committed to international solidarity and gender equality. She has worked as a mentor in journalism and communication for the miners’ union radio in Bolivia in the 90s, and in 2016-2017 she was engaged as a pedagogical advisor at the School of Journalism and Communication in Rwanda, within a collaboration between the University of Rwanda and the Swedish Fojo Media Institute. Her current research includes a project on media representations and self-representations of asylum seeking youth.
Kerstin is collaborating with ADEP, as a senior advisor, in the project ”From Gender Based Violence to Freedom from Violence through Creative Media Work” funded by the Swedish Institute – a project with partners from eight countries; Sweden, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Somalia, Tanzania, Rwanda and Zambia.
