ADEP Policy
Since ADEP works on the basis of the analyzes and positions regarding development that were made by scholars and practioners from different parts of the world in the early publications published by the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation (which is described under ”about” on this website), ADEP orients itself towards projects and collaborations that promote such development.
When projects and collaborations are initiated and established, the entry points are clarified which also harmonizes with the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights, human rights conventions, the UN’s Agenda 2030 for sustainable development and the substantive and comprehensive studies in peace- and nonviolence research on how peace can be achieved through peaceful and democratic means and through resistance, as well as feminist research studying how gender equality and freedom from violence can be promoted. The another development approach also has roots in the struggles by a broad variation of social movements and communities that have fought for social justice, for example indigenous people who have been exposed to colonialism and racism with all its destructive consequences. When collaborations are established, it is important for ADEP to create awareness among the partners of the social, historical and ideological roots of company, i.e. that ADEP acknowledges the struggles done by other people, as well as their experiences when fighting for social justice, human dignity and the rights of nature.
This means that the company does its best not to steal anyone’s story, and to listen to the perspectives that come from vulnerable groups and who have been, or are, exposed to different forms of violence; direct, structural and cultural/ideological.
The practical work for anti-discrimination is also central importance, which places demands on diversity, representation, gender equality, participation, transparency and accountability in the projects and collaborations that are initiated and carried out.
ADEP has a particular interest in promoting and supporting sustainable local development, as well as international collaborations that strengthens the ability of local actors, organizations and movements to work for respect for human rights, peace and sustainable development.
Since the company was founded, ADEP has consistently worked for this in planning, implementation, follow-up and evaluation of projects and collaborations.
Follow-up and evaluation is done at the operational and project level, but also for the company as a whole. In addition, questions are asked about strategic choices for ADEP to optimize the company’s contribution to processes and relationships that strengthen respect for human rights, peace and sustainable development.
