Contracted by Center for Rural Medicine, Region Västerbotten, I work with the County Government of Homa Bay i Kenya in a project for youth health.
A program in Västerbotten for both the political wing and the technical wing of the administration was organized for the partners to work with peer learning through different methods. The program was carried out April 19th-24th with activities in Lycksele Municipality, Umeå Municipality and Stockholm.
This was the third meeting within this project that started 2023. Special attention was given to what the team from Homa Bay call the ”thriple threat”; teen age pregnancies, HIV-Aids and Gender-based Violence (GBV). The project also adress questions on mental health and how to enhance mental health through the support by the health system that works on various levels in Homa Bay County.
The partners is also happy since Swedish International Centre for Local Democracy (ICLD) just recently decided to approve a new application for a project that is linked to the ongoing project on Governance for Youth Health. This project is a Peer Learning Practioner Project that provides the practioners to be involved in the partnership; councellors, psychologists, healt care developers, midwifes and others, i.e. not only representatives for the political level and heads working at the Department of Health. This new project will be carried out 2024-2025 and disseminated 2025.
I am very grateful for being able to support the partners as the project manager and senior advisor.
